The twist? These Kaiju cannot be controlled. Instead, eight broken human "Hearers" (pilots who feel the monster’s pain) must form a psychic symbiosis with them. Our protagonist, , a disgraced volcanologist, is paired with Goremaw , the Volcano Kaiju—a grumpy, father-figure lizard who just wants to take a nap and stop the world from burning.

If you can survive the slow middle episodes and forgive the boring human villain, you are in for one of the best Kaiju stories in years. Bring earplugs for the neighbors.
