Elena looked at the camera. She could break character, say she was hurt, end the stream. But 150,000 people were watching. The ad revenue was ticking up like a Geiger counter. The producer was screaming in her earpiece: “KEEP GOING! THEY LOVE IT!”
Elena had been a maid for the rich for twelve years. She knew how to clean a chandelier with a silk glove, how to remove red wine from a 17th-century rug, and, most importantly, how to be invisible.
But last year, she lost her job to a robot that folded napkins into origami swans.
