Some sad, some curious, some closed. “Paper eyes don’t lie,” she says one night, as you both watch the city lights blur through a rain-streaked window. “Real eyes get tired. Paper eyes just… watch. Forever.”
You notice it on a Tuesday afternoon, in the dusty light of a used bookstore. She’s sitting cross-legged on the floor, tracing a finger over the spine of a forgotten novel. When she finally looks up, her eyes don’t pierce or comfort. They receive — like blank pages waiting for a poem.
