This was the highest-grossing film in the series worldwide.
The editing is violent —literally. Shots rarely last longer than one second. Some fans hated the shaky-cam. Others loved the visceral chaos. Also, they kill off a major game character in the first ten minutes ( cough Wesker cough ).
Over the next 14 years and six films, we watched Milla Jovovich kick, shoot, and psychic-blast her way through hordes of the infected. Was it a faithful adaptation? No. Was it a wildly entertaining, gloriously chaotic, slow-motion gun-fest? Absolutely.
A messy, rushed, but ultimately satisfying goodbye. Final Thoughts: Do They Hold Up? If you are a purist of the Resident Evil games (the slow, survival-horror puzzle boxes of the 90s), these movies will drive you insane. Leon is a side character. Claire is a background figure. Wesker is a joke.
The plot is nonsense in the best way. Alice is captured by Umbrella and forced to run through a giant underwater test facility that replicates: a suburban neighborhood, Tokyo, Moscow, and New York. She fights "zombie clones" of her old friends.

But if you accept them as their own universe—a with horror roots—they are incredibly re-watchable.
