Spectacular Spiderman Now
Why The Spectacular Spider-Man is Still the Gold Standard for Animated Superheroes đ¸ď¸
No notes. Bring it back, you cowards.
If you've never watched it, do yourself a favor. It's on Netflix (US) and Disney+ (depending on your region). If you have watched it, letâs mourn together. Spectacular Spiderman
Unlike some adaptations where Peter feels like a 30-year-old trapped in a teen's body, Spectacular nails the angst. Peter is broke, overworked, awkward, and constantly messing up his personal lifeânot because he's stupid, but because he's a teenager . The love triangle (square?) with Gwen, Liz, and MJ feels genuine, not like forced drama.
This show gave us the best versions of almost every villain. From a genuinely terrifying Venom (voiced by Ben Diskin) to a cunning, mob-boss Doc Ock (Peter MacNicol), the villains have layers . The decision to have Norman Osborn operate as the "Big Man" behind the scenes before becoming the Goblin was genius. Why The Spectacular Spider-Man is Still the Gold
Letâs take a minute to appreciate the masterpiece that is The Spectacular Spider-Man .
Developed by the legendary Greg Weisman ( Gargoyles , Young Justice ) and designed by Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, the art style is fluid, expressive, and kinetic. The "smear frames" and acrobatic fight choreography make Spidey feel like heâs actually using his agility and witânot just punching harder. It's on Netflix (US) and Disney+ (depending on your region)
For me, itâs the Master Planner sequence in "Gangland." đ
You canât read this post without hearing it. "Living on the edge, fighting crime, spinning webs..." Itâs an earworm that perfectly captures the tone of the character.
