The next day, he tried “Hourglass.” The tablature was standard, but the phrasing was wrong. On the recording, Moore held a high E for an impossible duration. The book, however, marked it as a fermata over a rest. Silence. Leo obeyed. He let the note ring, then killed it. And in that silence—a thrum. Not tinnitus. A resonance.
